REMIND UpdatesPlease sign up for REMIND notifications. You will get updates on class trips, tests, etc. from me through the form of text message. This is a great tool for when students forget to bring home important papers, as well as for staying informed and up-to-date with what is going on in the classroom.

DictéeEach week, we will have a dictée (spelling test), which will always fall on the last day of the week (normally Friday), unless otherwise stated. Students will be given the content of the quiz (either a list of words or sentences) at the beginning of each week and are required to study them leading up to the dictée. The content of the quiz will be posted all week long at the front of the class, and students are responsible for writing it down and studying (I suggest at least 5 minutes per day). The goal of the dictée is not simply to memorize what is given each week, but to understand it. We analyze every part of the dictée and ask why commas are placed in certain places, why there is an accent on one word but not another, etc. The dictée adds a nice structure to our classroom, as we start and end every week with it. In addition, students are left with always having something to do when they finish other work early.
GradingAnother exciting change this year at Connaught – there will only be two report cards (one in February and one in June). I will be holding parent-teacher-student conferences throughout the year, however, another great way to see how your child is doing is to log in online to see their grades on assignments, quizzes, etc. (which I will try to update bi-weekly). To obtain your password, you must come into the school. They cannot be distributed online or through students, unfortunately. I will have them available for you for our OPEN HOUSE on September 14th (5:30 – 6:45) and any time after that.
